What is podcast schema markup?
Podcast schema is structured data in JSON-LD that describes your show (PodcastSeries) or a single episode (PodcastEpisode) using the schema.org vocabulary — name, host, cover art, RSS feed, audio file, duration and where to listen. It helps search engines and AI assistants identify your podcast as an entity and connect your episode pages, website and listening platforms.
Schema does not change what visitors see. It sits in the page code and gives machines clean, unambiguous facts instead of making them guess from your text.
Does Google still show podcast rich results?
Honest answer: not as a special feature. Google retired Google Podcasts in 2024, removed the podcast player from Search and no longer lists podcasts among its supported rich result types. Any tool that promises a “podcast rich snippet” is out of date.
So why add it? Because schema.org markup is still read and understood by search engines, AI answer engines and other platforms. Clear PodcastSeries and PodcastEpisode data:
- Builds your podcast as an entity — linking your site, host and listening platforms with
sameAs. - Connects episodes to the show with
partOfSeries, so episode pages are understood as part of one podcast. - Gives AI tools quotable facts — host, guests, topic, date and duration — when they answer questions about your niche.
- Costs nothing to maintain once it is in your page template.

How to add podcast schema to your website
WordPress with Rank Math
Edit the page, open Rank Math → Schema → Schema Generator → Import (or Custom Schema on Pro) and paste the JSON-LD from this tool.
WordPress with any theme
Use a code snippets plugin such as WPCode, create an HTML snippet with the full <script type="application/ld+json"> block, and load it only on the podcast or episode page.
Any other site
Paste the script block into the page’s HTML, ideally in the <head>. Webflow, Squarespace and Wix all support custom code per page.
Then test it with the Schema Markup Validator (validator.schema.org). Google’s Rich Results Test will show the code is valid but no rich result — that is expected for podcasts.
Podcast schema best practices
- Match what is on the page. Title, host and description in the schema should match visible content.
- Use your real RSS feed in
webFeed— it is the most reliable identifier of a podcast. - Add every listening platform in
sameAs: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and more. Each one strengthens your entity. - Give each episode its own page with a PodcastEpisode block, a transcript or show notes, and a link back to the series.
- Use ISO 8601 durations like
PT42M— the generator converts minutes for you.
Schema + platform listings = stronger podcast SEO
Schema tells machines who you are; listings on podcast platforms prove it across the web. Every platform profile that links back to your site adds a trusted, branded backlink and another sameAs signal. That is exactly what podcast backlinks do — your show or brand listed on up to 28 podcast platforms and directories. See the podcast directories list for where to submit.

Podcast schema FAQ.
What schema type should I use for a podcast?
Use PodcastSeries on your main podcast page and PodcastEpisode on each episode page. Link each episode to the series with the partOfSeries property.
Does podcast schema give rich results in Google?
No. Google retired Google Podcasts in 2024 and does not list podcasts as a supported rich result type. The markup is still valid schema.org and helps search engines and AI tools understand your podcast as an entity.
Is podcast schema the same as an RSS feed?
No. The RSS feed distributes your episodes to apps like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Schema describes your podcast on your own web pages. Use both, and include the feed URL in the schema’s webFeed property.
How do I write the duration in podcast schema?
Use ISO 8601 format: PT42M for 42 minutes or PT1H15M for 1 hour 15 minutes. The generator converts minutes for you.
How do I test my podcast schema?
Paste your page URL or code into the Schema Markup Validator at validator.schema.org. It checks the JSON-LD against the schema.org vocabulary.
Can I add podcast schema in WordPress without coding?
Yes. Paste the generated JSON-LD into Rank Math’s schema import, or into an HTML snippet in a plugin like WPCode limited to the podcast page.
